Hungarian National Heroes’ Day

Magyar hősök emlékünnepe, hősök napja, or National Heroes’ Day is held on the last Sunday in May.

Sunday, May 28, 2023

First enacted into law in 1917 amid World War I, this day is in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for our country. In the capital city of Hungary, the memorial stone of heroes commemorates the fallen soldiers of World War I. Inaugurated in 1929, this stone lays in front of the Millennium Monument in Budapest’s Heroes’ Square.

On this day, May 28th, The Hungarian Veterans’ Association and Magyar Gála respectfully acknowledge the heroes and civilians who gave their lives for Hungary.
